Over the holiday season I have been making cute things. Little animal puppets. I admit it was fun to give them away as gifts to a few of the children in my life. I also need to admit that I dislike giving battery powered toys for gifts. I think the toy companies and the battery companies have a sweet deal with each other. They live for keeping each other afloat financially. Just my opinion, not actually a fact...that I know of.

I really love to give gifts that help encourage kids to use their imagination in creative play. I guess it is the preschool teacher in me... I doubt she will ever leave...she is a part of who I am.

Anyway, that brings me to these sweet finger puppets. I have just started to sell them. $5 each or only $3 when 5 or more are purchased. They are light in weight and therefore cheap to send. Hope you enjoy the sweetness of these shots. :)

Skating at Robson Square

We went to Robson Square skating yesterday. A very fun, interesting and enjoyable time. Such a small rink and so many people. Not usually my favorite mix. Yet, I found myself enjoying my time in cramped quarters. Maybe it was the company or maybe the festive mood we were in.

Many of the skaters seemed to be new ones. Possibly never skated before yet, there they were falling on their backsides as they carry their expensive cameras ready to get a good "action shot". For some the only action shot for them ended up pictures of the roof as they landed hard flailing to not drop the camera.

All in all, people seemed to be kind hearted with good will to others. Definately a reconmended activity.

My Mom's last Devotional

With the Christmas season upon us, I have been thinking about my Mom.

Here is the devotional she had read the morning that she died.

She left it on the couch for us to find.

At the time we continued to pray for her healing.

However, I think my mom came to terms with the fact that her healing

would be a healing of the inner heart and that her physical healing

would be when she stood before Christ. The devotional is a bit old

school in its writing, but definitely still has something to say to me.

(Sorry about the spacing...not sure what happened.)

I have learned,

to be content whatever the circumstances.

Philippians 4:11

Your present situation may not be to your liking.

Perhaps you are dissatisfied and discouraged.

Put the matter in God’s hands. If He wants you elsewhere,

He will lead you there, providing you are

amenable to His will.

But perhaps He wants you where you are.

In that case He will help you to adjust to the situation.

He will make you content, even grateful for present opportunities.

Learn the great art of doing the best

you can, with what you have, where you are.

When you do this, you learn how to reach a better condition

or how to make your present situation a better one.

God's Face in Unexpected Places

Went to an interesting Christmas party the other night!

I got to hang out with such beautiful, kind and caring people. Friends who truly are teaching me to look past all exterior faces. Friends who can truly love unconditionally. These friends continue to teach me to look past, past the addiction, past the homelessness and into the heart of Jesus. To see the face of God in all people, all his creation speak of him through their beauty.

As I watch helplessly as a woman I have grown to love and appreciate is so strung out on God knows what, I can't help but to be saddened. To cry in pain for her, to long for her to understand that God really does love her and that she was the reason he was born into this world. He died, so that SHE might live. It is sad to see a person not understanding that they are worth everything. I do not understand addiction I have never had one, with the exception of Slurpee's in the summer time. Come on though, WAAAY different. I realize the amazingly full life that my loving family has provided me with, helping and forming me to make wise decisions. I thank God for this and then I wonder, how can it be fair that I have such a supporting and caring family and so many others do not. Is it truly just the luck of the draw or has God for some unknown reason predetermined the path we each walk down? I understand that we have all been given free choice. However, free choice seems easier to handle had you a supportive family. I do not have answers for this.

God's unconditional love is shown, as I continue to look on and see friends surround and support her. Lovingly talking with her and walking her home. This is how God extends His Love, Hope and Grace to every person. God's grace does not discriminate between class, gender, sexuality or even soberness. It does not matter what you have done or are doing. You are invited! He really does want the best for each of us. I pray that I will hear his best for me. That I will love unconditionally and be gracious and compassionate just as I long to have the same shown to me.

As these new friends continue to help me grow in understanding of who God is, I pray that I am doing the same for them. Showing beauty, kindness, and care to those I meet in all that I do. That my life would convey the Grace, Hope, Peace and Love that I have grown so accustom to receiving. May many receive these unconditional gifts that are extended to all people this Christmas season and may you see God's face in unexpected places.

Expanding my family only to send them off

So I have been busy the last little while expanding my puppet family. I will be in a craft fair this weekend (Dec. 6) in Port Moody called Klahanie Holiday Market here is where it will be from 12 until 4pm. http://wikimapia.org/6610159/Canoe-club-501-Klahanie-Drive So I needed to have some stock. I will be selling my puppets, cards and pouches/make-up bags that I make. There is something about creating that I absolutely love. The hope is that I can sell some of these to support my habit.

The small ones are selling for $40 and the larger ones for $50. I shipped items as well costs about $8-$10 to ship.

I have been using a puppet I made for about 10 years now. I looove him and so have all of my classes in the past.
I gave a puppet to my youngest nephew for his birthday this past year. His Dad has a hay day putting on shows for Little "E". While I do not recommend these puppets for use of children under 4, parents seem to enjoy letting loose with their dramatic side to make their children smile, laugh and giggle.
This blue aphro really makes me laugh.

Anyway, a few people have been asking to see what I am making so I thought I would update anyone who is interested.

By the way, can you help me name these puppets. I would love to hear what names you come up with. Please be creative! :)

The Dam, Cotton into Pleather, and 4 Drawn Rats

This weekend my friends and I went for a "hike". We set off for Lynn Canyon and ended up at the Cleveland Dam. http://www.greatervancouverparks.com/ClevelandDam01.html We are a wonderfully funny extra large gong show whenever we get together and I love every minute of it.

Of course we chose the rainiest day of of October to take a hike. Now in our defense, it was sunny in downtown Vancouver when we left. However, heading over to North Vancouver we could see the clouds formed over the mountains.
Off we went to explore the wild frontier. Laurie hating every sign that posted beware of bears. I kept telling her bears are smarter then we are, they don't go out in the rain.
At one point it started to rain so hard that we all just instinctively started to run back up the hill that we came from. I was wearing black track pants that soaked up the weather. They were so heavy, it was difficult keeping them up. My cotton pants glistened in the fog and looked like pleather. I was stylin'!
But seriously, the colours of fall never cease to amaze me. The paintbrush stokes of our Creator and Artisan are so tenderly and carefully painted.

Next time, definitely wearing our waterproof pants. What were we thinking? Poor Jessie kinda looked like a large wet rat.

Overall, a good day full of laughing, walking, running, hiking and a little girly screaming.

We will go back again to the dam...but next time, we will check the forecast.

As I walked the streets of Downtown Vancouver enjoying its beauty and praying for its people who God dearly loves, I asked God to give me a divine appointment. I continued to walk a few more blocks looking into the eyes of God's greatest creation, intentionally not listening to my ipod as I often do. I stumbled on an art show happening at the Pendulum Gallery, 885 West Georgia or www.artsumbella.com. It was a previewing of the art work that will be Auctioned off on Saturday October 17 at Performance Works in Granville Island. The proceeds go to artsumbella who if I understand do many different art programs for children and youth.

As I walked around gazing into the beauty that was created by so many talented artists I was met by one of the volunteers helping with the show. We small talked for a while and she told me about her son who is a professional dancer in Vancouver. I shared that my Husband and I are pastoring a church here in the city for artists. Turns out her son has been looking for a church who can embrace who he is as an artist. She asked more, I answered and we exchanged email addresses. Turns out she works at Carver Christian School, one of the private high schools that my school (VCC) feeds into.

I have no idea what will come out of this encounter but, I continue to be amazed at how God is constantly letting me know, in gentle and loving ways, that he is in control. All I need to do is listen!

My Husband Rocks and I'll tell you Why!!!

Today was a day of last minutes. I started the day with a walk downtown to try to cross off the last things on my list on the day before we launch our new church. I was determined not to get in my car at all today and yes I did succeed! However, with my success came three trips out into the streets of Vancouver.

The first trip I made was to the Grandville Street London Drugs. I bought large bottles of shampoo and conditioner (personal use not for Artisan use...we have been using hotel samples for the last few weeks...it was time), a tea kettle, Welches grape Juice (which only seems to come in laaarge jugs), and a large Rubbermaid bin. Kinda heavy stuff when you have 12 blocks to walk... Thank goodness for the new Canada line that is a block from our home. Walked there trained it home. I can say very confidently that I was the only person on the train that was using a large blue Rubbermaid for her purse.

Dropped off the first load and headed out again on the train (same ticket:)) to Broadway. Had a stop at Canadian Tire and then London Drugs again to get what they did not carry downtown. Homeward bound again ...yes, same ticket.

Unloaded again, heated up some mid afternoon lunch for Nelson and I, sent some emails and then, yup, you guessed it off into the streets again. This time Staples for a Portfolio Bag and to get Artisan signs laminated. The nice thing about this Staples is that it is only 6 blocks away. Unfortunately, the portfolio bags they have are 1/2 inch too small...sad! (Really?... that little bit off ... Really?) and their laminater was not working. The girl sent me to the Staples on Burrard at Georgia, an additional 6 blocks away. Off I went and finished my tasks and even was able to make one more stop at chapters to cross something else off the list. Sigh!

I was on my way home when my dear husband called to let me know he was on his way to Long and Mcquade's to get a couple last minute sound items. I said I was on my way home and thought I might top my day off by treating myself to a Slurpee but realized on the phone that I had no cash with me. No big deal I responded... was not meant to be. (can't card a Slurpee... seems weird to me...).

Anyway, here is where my husband rocks.

I continued on my way home and a few blocks from where I said good bye on the phone to Nelson, I see our car pull up in a parking spot where I was walking and out comes my husbands arm with a toonie to buy a Slurpee. What a wonderful man! My Husband rocks and I have now told you why. It truly is about the little things in life guys!!

Really Good Advice

Living with boys has its ups and downs, thank goodness for some comic relief. This morning my son says out of the blue: ‘never stick harsh chemicals up your butt hole.. it stings!

"I said , ‘ have you stuck anything up there?’ my son replies, ‘only air wick.’

Really wish I could have been apart of his thinking when he chose this action.

The entire Bible on flannel arrived today for Artisan Kids. Yup, that's right I like to kick it old school when it comes to teaching biblical principles. Anyway, I ordered the larger of the two sizes. Sadly I am regreting it now... where am I going to store it? Anyone want to buy a brand new Large Delux Betty Lukens Bible on Flannel?

I am envisioning poor little sweet Elijah and Eva sitting listening to the Bible story while their eyes bug out from it's gigantic size. I will have to tell these kids "Back up" as adults do all the time to their children watching a big screen TV.

I will also need to purchase a huge portfolio bag to carry the 3 huge flannel boards that came with the set. The cardboard backs of the huge boards are not made for this Vancouver weather. Yikes! What was I thinking!! Would be great if you have a building or on site storage. Alas we have neither.

Good Canadian Beaver Tail

While in Ottawa at the beginning of September, I had my first ever Beaver Tail. It was quite the experience. There was only one place in town that we new of that sold them. It was a cute little street shack vendor. Every time we walked by this place there was a lengthy line up, mid-morning all the way til late at night.

We joined the line when

we could endure the yummy smell of deep fryed death no longer and ordered our first ever Beav

er Tail. If you have never had one... basically a very flat doughnut shaped like a beaver's tail and slathered with all kinds of different topping options. We opted for the classic cinnamon and sugar topping.

We slapped down our $7 for two and

took a bite. IT WAS SOOO GOOD! (I also love a great bag of mini doughnuts at fairs and theme parks. This was the same only different in shape.) In fact it was so good that we came back for another one the next evening after a walking tour.

Beaver Tails ... a great Canadian way to soak the tourist for as much as possible. :)

The Fabulous Five

We were just in the Nations Capital the first week of September for my brothers wedding. So many things to write about. However, I choose to write first about the ‘Fabulous Five’.

On our first day in Ottawa we went to parliament hill to do a self guided tour around the grounds. Maybe it is having been in many different countries in Europe or maybe it was me, just getting older and more sentimental, but it was a very enjoyable time. We walked around the grounds looking at the monuments of different important people in Canada’s history.

The monument that was extremely emotional for me was of 5 women communing over tea. It was “The Persons Case”. The Persons Case is a legal history milestone in Canada. Five women from Alberta, known as the Famous Five, asked the Supreme Court of Canada to declare that women were persons under the law; after the Supreme Court turned them down, they appealed to the British Privy Council. I have to admit that I did get a bit emotional taking this sight in. I have these 5 women to thank for my right to vote, and my right to be a person. I just can’t imagine not being seen as a person. Yet, in our world still women are treated as less human and not as persons.

This takes me to today. I watched a documentary called “Daughter’s of Afghanistan” This looks at the mistreatment of women and children in Afghanistan. Canadian Journalist Sally Armstrong follows four women and one girl as they hope for the day of liberation. I pray that the Daughter’s of Afghanistan find their ‘fabulous five’, and I pray that it would be soon!

God vs Africa

Went to the fireworks last evening. It was South Africa competing. We were not going to go because it was raining and a bit miserable. But then the sky started to change...wow it was absolutely beautiful. We had thunder and lightning and God started to put on a very impressive show.

I am not sure I remember seeing the sky look this colour. It was red and orange purple and gold all mixed together... and the piece de la re-sis-tance... Lightning bolts flying through the sky.

Instead of people walking away from the lightning something interesting was happening. People were walking in the direction of the lightning. Some just sat propped on their claimed spot waiting for South Africa's Symphony of lights show. But what we all got instead was God's showing of power, creativity and existence. It was like he was saying... "Hey, Vancouver I'm HERE... keep watching...I'm Here...Look up...I'm HERE.

As people continued to watch to the heavens for God's Symphony of lights, (His thunder was his music and His fireworks lit up the entire sky) people cheered. This was a very interesting experience to here a collective community cheering and yelling for God's show to continue...hmm. Little did so many of them know that, I think, God was smiling down... in appreciation.

When South Africa started their show, people were excited for it and don't get me wrong, they did an excellent job, but nothing, nothing was like the amazing show we had just seen in the Heavens so effortlessly put together by our maker and Artisan.

Yes, people cheered and whistled for South Africa...but it was defiantly not as loud or consistant as when we did for the thunder and lightning.

Overall... I think God won!!

I Love Dandilions

Ghost Busters!!

Freshair Cinema came to downtown. They set this huge inflatable movie screen up and when it gets dark they start the movie.

We were lucky enough to get to see "Ghost Busters"

Nelson and I had my 1 year old nephew over for the day while his parents went hiking. He is a bright, fun and smilely boy. Such a pleasure to take care of. While he was with us he discovered a new friend. He tryed so hard to kiss his new friend, but whenever he did he would look back at me and seemed to be wondering, 'why his friend's lips were so hard?'.

Be kind to a celiac today--My Favorite Gluten Free Cookies

I have two fabulous friends who are both Celiacs and need to stick to a gluten free diet. These are some of my favorite cookies and I need to say that they do not taste like they are gluten free. You will looove my recipe!

Step #1 Besure you have wiped all surfaces down especially if you use gluten in your day to day cooking and baking.

Step #2 Measure into a medium sized bowl

1 cup Coconut

2 cups Gluten Free Rice Krispie Cereal

**note that Kellogg's Rice Krispie are NOT Gluten Free**

1 cup Raisins

1 cup Choc. Chips

3/4 cup Sunflower Seeds

1/2 cup Sesame Seeds

1/2 cup Flax Seeds

**Set aside

Step #3 1/2 cup Flax Seed Meal (this can be found in the health food section)

1 cup Rice Flour

1 cup Brown Rice Flour

1 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Baking Soda

**Put asside**

Step #4 Cream together

1 cup Margarine or butter Soften (I Perfer Butter)

3/4 cup Brown Sugar

3/4 cup White Sugar

Step #5 Add

2 Eggs

1 tsp Real Vanilla Extract

Mix together well.

Step #6 Add a spoonful at a time

The flour mixture until it is mix in well.

Step #7 Add a cup at a time of the seedy mixture until it is mixed together fully.

Step #8 Put heeping tablespoons of the dough on to a dark nonstick pan

*** Note dork nonstick cookie sheet is really important for these cookies to turn out properly. Do not know why!***

Step #9 Bake in 350 oven for 10-13 min. ***note I find that it is helpful to chill the dough for about 1 hour before baking***

Because gluten free baking always tastes better the day of baking, I usually only bake one tray at a time and then roll the dough in plastic food wrap and place in the freezer. Then I just slice the dough up and bake just like the pilsbury dough cookies.

Step # 10 Let cookies cool on the cookie sheet until they can be removed without breaking. What ever cookies are not eaten the same day as baking I store in a air tight container or baggie then put them into the freezer. This help the cookie stay fresher.

Bike ride on the sea wall

Okay So today Nelson and I were a part of something called Critical Mass. This was Nelson's second time and my first. Boy, what an experience it was.

We started by gathering at the Art Gallery. There were so

many people with bikes. The cling cling of the bike bells ringing constantly.

We began by riding up Howe toward the Granville Street bridge. Riders who have done this many times, know the drill. At every light a few riders will block the way so no cars or pedestrians can get by. I would not want to be the car waiting for 1000 bikes to pass through the light before being able to go again.

When you get to the top of the Granville Street Bridge you are suppose to lift your bike up over your head in victory, not really sure why, but it is very funny.

Then we continued on west 4th street and turn right onto Burrard. Many very interesting poeple and there bikes. One guy had rigged up speakers on his bike and attached small MacDonald toys in cars. He had tons of great old music such as The Beach Boys.

When we got to the top of the Burrad Street Bridge we waited again for the bikes to gather. It was pretty funny the things you saw.

Finally we continued on down the streets of downtown Vacouver. Overall, an unforgetable time. It was so great to feel a part of community with people, no matter how crazy it was.

Okay so if you are new to my blog, I want to encourage you to read my first post entitled Why should I blog? This will help you to understand why I really suck at spelling and grammer. In the short time that I have started my blog I have found many, many mistakes. I'm sure you have spotted them too. So Give a second read to my postings cause they may change with time and hopefully for the better.

It was soooo cold the day we went on the Staten Island Ferry. We really did not even get out on the other side. "A train" would have turned into a baby popsicle.

It was not very often that we were this alone in the subway. But when it happened

advantage of it.

Just loved walking around looking at all the beautful old buildings. All the iron fire escapes make me think of 'Welcome Back Kotter' Loved that show!

Acne

As I sit looking in the mirror seeing my wonderfully red chin, I was thinking back to my teenaged years. Acne. I never really had a problem with it until I hit adulthood. Yes, of course I had the odd one that would pop its ugly head up at the wrong time.

I remember sitting on the basketball bench in grade 9 feeling something on the side of my nose I had never experienced before. It was not simply a small pimple. It was a mountain with its pussy lava way down deep and none eruptible. I asked my friend, Kim Gillespe, who promptly said, “oh I know what that is. Don’t worry I know what to do.” Now why I took her word I do not know. She was known for being quite the prankster. “Just simply put your finger on it and push down reeeally hard, for a reeeally long time.” As I sat on the basketball bench doing as Kim said, somewhere back in my snapshots of my life, I remember being in almost the same position with her not long before. Only instead she told me to tense my neck for a reeeally long time and see what happens. “It’s reeeally cool!” So I did and the next day I woke up with such a stiff neck that I nearly needed to skip school. While, missing school was always welcomed in my life, a stiff neck was not.

So there I sat pushing down the mountain lava deeper into my skin. Now I did not know then what I know now about skin health or I would never have listened to Kim. The next day I woke up with the entire side of my nose covered in hideous red rolling hills and the mountain was twice as big. I think back and chuckle. She got me twice. I hope I have gotten wiser over the years...

Moral, not sure I have one...could you help me out here?

Why should I blog?

Why should I blog? Well, quite frankly, I should not. My spelling is atrocious and my grammar is even worse. But maybe, just maybe blogging will help me work on these skills. Dyslexia is thick in my veins. It clogs my grammatical arteries. Some of you may be able to help me thin these down. I also read slow.

Well, there it is all out on the table... or computer screen. I may never even end up with any followers on this blog of mine, but if it will help me to keep taking pictures and keep writing stories then I guess it will be worth it. I hope that you (it may just be you reading honey) enjoy some of my stories, pictures and many other items that you will read and see as I contemplate life in the big city of Vancouver and life from the small town of Vineland.
